Dear Brother/Sister in Christ: |
|
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and Lord Jesus Christ. |

We are writing on behalf of the congregation of St. Antonious Coptic Orthodox
Church in Portland, OR. The church is registered in the State of Oregon under
No. 547476-89, and recognized by the IRS as a church under sec. 501 (c)(3). |
|
In 1992 H. H. Pope Shenouda III asked Fr. Takla Azmy, today’s priest of St. Mark
Coptic Orthodox Church in Seattle (WA), to serve the Copts in Oregon. With 8 to
10 families, we started to rent an Antiochian Orthodox Church once a month on
Saturdays. In 1999, God blessed us with the first church in Sandy, Oregon (about
30 miles away from Portland). It was small but it was ours. Abouna used to come
once or twice a month. We had baptisms and even a wedding in the Church in
Sandy. We were about 25-30 families at that time. In 2003, God blessed us with a
larger church in Portland itself. It was like a miracle to have such a church,
thanks to God and to the generosity of many donors who helped us achieve this
dream. However, we realized that a church without a permanent priest is like a
sheep without a shepherd, and people can be scattered away. Unfortunately, some
families left the mother church to other denominations, or quit going to any
church. |
|
Finally God answered our prayers and in August 2006, His Holiness Pope Shenouda
III sent us our beloved Fr. Mekhail S. Hanna as a permanent priest. Today, the
church has about 70 families in addition to about 20 young men; most of them
came from Upper Egypt looking for a better life. The current church building can
no longer accommodate all the church members, Sunday school and associated
activities. Now, we are in urgent need of a larger building and we plead you to
help us and take part of this blessed project. We really appreciate your
support. May the Lord bless your offerings and reward you with His heavenly
rewards. Donations can be sent to the following address: |
